Enterprise Activity in Nottinghamshire Schools

Several Nottinghamshire secondary schools have been awarded Enterprise Pathfinder Status by the Department for Education and Skills (DfES).  The selected schools will receive some additional funding to pilot models of enterprise learning.

The North Nottinghamshire Learning Partnership (NNLP) has also been awarded a 14-19 Pathfinder by the DfES.  This Pathfinder will support over 20 secondary schools, special schools 3 colleges training providers and organisations involved in education.  One of the key objectives is to support enterprising learning & teaching strategies.  In one of the 4 areas of North Nottinghamshire (Ashfield), the Pathfinder will focus exclusively on the development of enterprise within the curriculum.

The Nottinghamshire local education authority (LEA) ‘Enterprise for All’ project is now in its latter stages.  On 5 December 2003, schools, colleges, and community groups will showcase the learning gained in the project at an event held at Nottingham FC’s ground.  There will also be 4 workshops on key issues.

At the start of November 2003, a number of Nottinghamshire Enterprise Pathfinder and Enterprise for All schools, the Nottinghamshire Education Business Alliance (NEBA) and the Lifelong Learning Team within Nottinghamshire LEA met to consider establishing a support group / network.  An email network has now been established and a further meeting will be held on 10 February 2004.  The Lifelong Learning Team and NEBA have agreed to draw up an initial list of resources and organisations working in enterprise education and training.
